FUN FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER
On October 5, 2012, "The Luck You Band" will be playing after Friday Night dinner, starting at 9PM. Come join us for a Fun Friday Night of Food and Entertainment!
REBUILDING TOGETHER BROWARD COUNTY
Thousands of poor, elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners across South Florida are forced to live in unimaginable conditions because they simply cannot afford to repair necessary items to make their homes safe and sanitary. Many of these impoverished neighbors are unaware that there is an agency called Rebuilding Together that will help to make their homes safe, sanitary and livable.
Rebuilding Together Broward County,(RTBC) is a local chapter of a nationwide nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve the homes of very low income elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners. RBTC volunteers perform urgent repairs and improvements to homes to make them safe and livable for their needy inhabitants.
On October 6, 2012, the South Florida community has an opportunity to help RTBC reach many more impoverished home owners, when they hold their annual fundraiser and family festival at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Dave from 11:00am to 4:00pm.
The Rebuilding Together Olympiad and Family Festival is a day of fun for all ages, that offers plenty of activities for children, while corporate teams compete in the Olympiad for a coveted "Golden Hard Hat" prize by obtaining the highest scores in a series of outrageously funny events like the "Toilet Toss," and "Material Monument Madness."
Admission is $5 or free for kids under 12 with a canned good donation for Broward Pantry. The opening ceremony for the Olympiad will begin at 11:00am and the Family Festival will run from 11:00am until 4:00pm.

DID YOU KNOW?
The unofficial but well-known flower of Veterans Day is the Poppy. This first became the symbol to remember fallen soldiers after John McCrae wrote a poem called In Flanders Fields on May 3, 1915. McCrae was a Canadian doctor and Lieutenant Colonel in the Canadian army. He wrote about how millions of poppy flowers grew in the Flanders field, where fallen troops had been buried.
The poem read, “In Flanders fields the poppies blow, Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky, The lakes, still bravely singing, fly, Scarce heard amid the guns below…Take up our quarrel with the doe: To you from falling hands we throw, The torch; be yours to hold it high, If ye break faith with us who die, We shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders fields.”
After this poem was published, veterans groups began to adopt it as a sign of remembrance and respect for those who died. Te flower has come to be a symbol of reverence for any person who served in the forces during any war.
