MAY 1

On Loyalty Day, we reaffirm our allegiance to our country and resolve to uphold the vision of our Forefathers. We should also take a moment to appreciate the members of our armed forces who are displaying the ultimate in loyalty and service to protect our freedoms, and liberty, and our way of life. The U.S. Congress made this an official holiday on July 18, 1958 with the signing of Public Law 85-529. Then President Dwight D. Eisenhower, proclaimed May 1, 1959 the 1st official observance of Loyalty Day.

A MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDER

During the month of May, our country will celebrate two cherished patriotic observances.

On May 1, we celebrate Loyalty Day, which by definition, is, a day set aside for the reaffirmation of loyalty to the United States and for the recognition of the heritage of American freedom.

On May 27, we celebrate Memorial Day, which by definition is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

As we take time during this month to give thanks to all those who served, and continue to serve, in defending the American Way, I would like to extend a personal thanks.

To all members of the William C. Morris Post 36 American Legion, Legionaries, Sons of the American Legion, Women’s Auxiliary, and the American Freedom Riders, I thank each and every one of you for making it a pleasure and a privilege to serve as your Commander. Your continued support and friendship at and for the post has been heartwarming, and an honor to be a part.

For God and Country,
Larry Sapp, Commander
